Note Many RFCs, but not all, are Proposed Standards, Draft Standards, or Standards. Since the status of these RFCs may change during the standards processing, we note here only that they are on the standards track. Please see the latest edition of "Internet Official Protocol Standards" for the current state and status of these RFCs. In the following, RFCs on the standards track are marked [STANDARDS- TRACK]. RFC Author Date Title --- ------ ---- ----- 0815 Kohl Jul 00 Working title: JPL 0815 Floyd Jul 00 Working title: JPL The idea of the JERK PUBLIC LICENSE, from hereon referred to as 'JPL' is that all content, code or knowledge distributed under the JPL is to be treated as follows. The main statement of the license is: IF YOU THINK I'M A JERK YOU CAN DISTRIBUTE THIS FREELY The first part of this license model "IF YOU THINK..." is addressed to the person reading, using or in any other way consuming the medium that underlies the JPL. The use of the verb "think" in this context means, that the reader is free to decide. The second part "...I'M A JERK..." referrs to the author. The noun Jerk that is used in this part stands for "a stupid man who does not care about the effects of his actions" (description is taken from the 1995 dictionary of contemporary English, Langenscheidt-Longman). The third part "...YOU CAN DISTRIBUTE THIS FREELY" where "this" stands for the piece of work the license is referring to, emphasizes that the distribution or reuse of the work being referred to is of no restriction should the first part of the license model be true. Grasping the meaning of all parts of this license model, we come to the following meaning: In the case the reader feels, that the author is a person not capable of thinking of the effects his actions invoke, he (the reader) may, without any restrictions whatsoever reuse or distribute the work of the author. This license model shall not be confused with the model referred to as "Copyleft", which is described elsewhere. Germany, 15 Jul 200 for the BSG (Blowfish Standards Group) Florian Kohl floh@revista.de
